The UFC avoided a huge disappointment when Dustin Poirier announced that he would be fighting Benoit St. Denise
Dustin stated in a social media post that he could not come to an agreement with the UFC on a deal to fight in Miami at UFC 299. Notably, the UFC announced the fight in a social media post on January 10th. Thus, it would seem that the fight was announced prior to signing of bout agreements.

The post by Poirier sent some fans into shock and MMA media into suspicious mode. Understandably, it would seem odd that the company would announce a fight when the camps had yet to confirm it. But, you may infer that some fans purchased tickets with the knowledge that Poirier was fighting in Miami. Hence, false advertising?
That same day, Poirier posted a “mea culpa” saying that he hadn’t been in contact with his manager (subtle blame spreading) and that his fight was on against BSD and he’d be ready in Miami.
Sorry folks, I jumped the gun, I couldn't get a hold of my manager for a few days. I just spoke with him and Hunter. Misunderstanding on my part. Fight is on! See you March 9th Miami!!! pic.twitter.com/oPriv0dMQq

Notably, the same day, Dana White went after Brazilian journalist Guilherme Cruz for contacting Benoit Saint Denis.
From Poirier’s perspective, it was an odd way of negotiating if it was negotiating. Did Poirier really not hear from his manager for a few days…Even if that was the case, the fight was originally announced on or about January 10th. Poirier’s tweet was on February 1st.
