Poirier announces no UFC 299 fight

February 1, 2024 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Despite the UFC announcing a UFC 299 fight between Dustin Poirier and Benoit Santi-Denis, the fight will not go forward. Poirier took to X to inform everyone that the fight was off.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto offered an explanation based on a text with Poirier:

Dustin Poirier (@DustinPoirier) expands on his recent "fights off" tweet (against Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299) to me via text … "There was no contractual agreement before the fight was announced and we couldn't come to terms."

The fight was thought to be confirmed as major outlets announced it was announced by Dana White. One may conclude it was disagreement over money. The UFC usually doesn’t announce fights until contracts have been signed but it looks like that is not the case here. However, the company has not responded yet to Poirier.

The main event for UFC 299 in Miami, Florida is Sean O’Malley versus Marlon Vera.
