On Tuesday, we learned that the UFC 294 main event changed due to an injury to Charles Olivera. Dana White revealed a nasty cut Olivera received in lead-up to the fight in Abu Dhabi. Now, Paulo Costa has pulled out due to injury and Kamaru Usman is taking his place.
Usman, the former middleweight champ, will be the biggest test for Khamzat Chimaev as the two now face at UFC 294 in the semi-main event.
White inferred on Tuesday that they would know the status of Costa soon. The middleweight had surgery on a staph infection 3 weeks ago. However, it appears he will need to get surgery again and had to pull out.
Payout Perspective:
I don’t recall a card getting better after the top two fights on a card have late scratches. However, Volkanovski and Usman provided different tests for the fighters. Here, the undefeated Chimaev faces a motivated former champion looking to get another shot at the title. UFC 294 will be an interesting card.
