On Tuesday night, the news spread that Charles Oliveira had to withdraw from his main event fight against Islam Makhachev due to a nasty cut on his eyebrow. However, Alexander Volkanovski is stepping in his place and fans will get the rematch between the two fighters.
Volkanovski will get less than two weeks to prepare for his rematch from earlier this year. However, its another shot for Volkanovski to become a champion in two divisions, a rare feat in the UFC.
While late replacements are not optimal for the UFC, this one may have made casual fans a lot more interested in purchasing this fight which takes place in Abu Dhabi.
Makhachev won a hard-fought unanimous decision over Volkanovski this past February in Perth at UFC 284. But, Volkanovski had his moments and was rarely kept down by Makhachev.
In addition to the change at the top of the card, an anticipated bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa, there is news that Costa may be out of that fight as well.
UFC 294 takes place on October 21st at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
