UFC to open Mexico PI this year

February 8, 2023 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The UFC announced that it will be opening a third performance institute in Mexico.  Dana White stated that the Mexico PI “can become one of the greatest sources of MMA talent in the world.  He also stated that Africa could be another region which could get an institute.

The UFC is investing several million dollars into the Mexico PI and will join Las Vegas and Shanghai, China as a center for the promotion to train current and upcoming athletes for the promotion.

According to an ESPN interview, White is eyeing Nigeria as the 4th UFC PI.  But no word on when that might happen.

The Mexico PI will be based out of Mexico City and will open in the fourth quarter of 2023.  It has contracted to start building a 32,000-square-foot venue.

Payout Perspective:

The investment in developing talent for the promotion is unique but smart for a company that is the industry leader in the sport of MMA. The strategy here is to build brand recognition globally and ensure that the top talent in burgeoning regions come to the UFC. The globalization of the sport of MMA is on the rise and the UFC sees expanding its reach will help the company.
