The UFC announced on Friday that Bella Mir, daughter of former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir, has signed an NIL deal with the UFC. The University of Iowa freshman and member of the women’s wrestling team becomes the first NIL brand ambassador for the UFC.
NIL, standing for Name, Image and Likeness, refers to the NCAA Division I Board of Directors policy allowing student-athletes to be compensated for their NIL. While controversial, it has helped student-athletes stay in school and defray costs that aren’t covered by a scholarship.
Payout Perspective:
Mir, who is likely to begin and MMA career with the UFC when she is done at the University of Iowa was the most suitable person to be the UFC’s first NIL ambassador. Obviously, her father is a UFC champion, she is a decorated high school wrestling champion and jiu jitsu competitor so the NIL deal should help her while she is in school and elevate her brand until she makes it to the UFC.
