Top 10 of 2022: Dana White’s Power Slap League

December 29, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

While it does not relate directly with MMA, Dana White announced the creation of a Power Slap League set to begin in 2023.  The league already has a television reality series on TBS which is similar to how White and the Fertitta Brothers jump-started the UFC.

Slap fighting is just what you think it is.  Two people standing across from each other and trade slaps until one person can no longer continue.  There are some rules to this creation and its derived from Russian and other European Leagues.  Events have been going around the U.S. but none that are going national that White’s creation.

The licensing before the Nevada State Athletic Commission went through with barely any opposition despite the fact concerns have been raised about the distinct inevitability of concussions.

White has used the ESPN family to help promote the new sport as he appeared on the ESPN Monday Night Football Manningcast to, in part, promote the sport.

With a reality series as its promotional vehicle to launch the sport, the UFC is banking to catch fans based on their love of the UFC and combat sports.  The reality TV part of the promotion will help draw out characters and recognizable figures to follow in this sport.  The real question is how much interest and attention fans will have for the sport which consists of one function: slapping people.  While MMA consists of different action (hence, “mixed martial arts”), we shall see how people will like a slap fight.

Welcome to the first 9 pm sunset of the year!

From now through July 18, the sun won’t dip below the horizon until the 9 o’clock hour. ☀️

TIME reports that White was instrumental in getting the young male vote for Trump. But White says the White House fight card is non-political. OK

We need more of this in MMA but also why was this show in Russia never seen in America?
