Winn cut by UFC after “freak accident” at UFCPI

December 22, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Deron Winn was released on Thursday according to the former UFC middleweight.  Winn’s last fight was cancelled due to an incident at the UFC Performance Institute in which he fainted and fell down the stairs.

Winn was scheduled to fight Julian Marquez this past Saturday, but he had to pull out due to the incident.  Although the details have not been released, it may have been related to weight-cutting. Win mixed weight in one fight and tested positive for amphetamines at UFC 248.

Being released after a freak accident on their property the week before Christmas. Man “it’s business not personal” has never been more real 🤦🏾‍♂️ https://t.co/386BPSsgVj

It seems like poor timing on the part of the UFC to release Winn two days before Christmas. While Winn’s track record with the company has not been great, it would seem that the company could have waited a couple days to release him.

With Winn gone from the company, the question on the possibility legal liability of falling at the UFC PI comes into question even more. While we do not know the circumstances of Winn’s fall, premises liability issues are apparent even if Winn was in a state in which he should not be walking.
