According to a report from the Independent in Ireland, former UFC fighter Artem Lobov is suing Conor McGregor over claiming that he was the one that came up with the Proper No. 12 Irish whiskey brand.
Lobov has filed the lawsuit in Ireland claiming that he is entitled to five percent of the money McGregor made when he sold his stake in Proper Twelve for $600 million.
His lawyer claims that Lobov “was the initial creator and co-founder of the concept to launch an Irish whiskey brand associated with Mr. McGregor.” McGregor’s representatives claim that Lobov’s assertion is incorrect.
Lobov stated that he did the research and due diligence in establishing an Irish whiskey brand. He claims Conor offered him $1M but Lobov turned him down.
Payout Perspective:
Without knowing too much of McGregor’s side of the story yet, one would have to believe Lobov has proof that could be corroborated by solid evidence and witnesses that he was the one to have helped McGregor. Although I am not proficient in Irish law, it would seem to be an uphill battle for Lobov to prove that he came up with the idea. Certainly, Lobov can suggest ideas to McGregor, but it’s likely McGregor would claim that he had a choice to invest his money or not in the idea. We shall see.
