MPO’s PFL 10 Preview Part I

November 21, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

PFL 10 takes place on Black Friday as the company embarks on its first PPV.  The event takes place at The Hulu Theatre in New York City and features Kayla Harrison as she tries to go for the threepeat in winning the PFL Women’s Lightweight Title.

Harrison faces a familiar opponent, in Brazil’s Larissa Pacheco.  Harrison already has two unanimous decision victories over Pacheco and will go for her third victory.

Pacheco believes that she’s a different fighter since the last time they fought in December 2019.  Since her loss to Harrison, she has 5 straight stoppages.  Will she be able to do something that no other PFL opponent has done and stop Harrison?

Rob Wilkinson will seek to gain the $1M prize in the Light Heavyweight Division as he takes on Omari Akhmedov. The native of New Zealand, Wilkinson has been training in the United States since the season started.  The former UFC light heavyweight will seek to earn the prize in his first full season with the PFL.

In the Lightweight division, Oliver Aubin-Mercier will face Stevie Ray.  Former sparring partners, the two will vie for the $1 million prize.

Marlon Moraes will be in a showcase fight on the card against Sheymon Moraes.  Sheymon Moraes is filling in for Shane Burgos after he was pulled due to an injury.  For those interested, I did have a chance to speak with Burgos prior to his injury.

Also, I spoke with Marlon about his return to the PFL cage.

In another lightweight fight, Natan Schulte takes on Jeremy Stephens.  The Brazilian is coming off of a win over Marcin Held and is looking for another to close out the year in the PFL.  Stephens has been training in San Diego and is coming off of a split decision win this past June.  The fight could turn into a grappling match or a slugfest.

Another Showcase Bout on the ESPN portion of the card is UK Muay Thai specialist Dakota Dicheva as she takes on BJJ specialist Katherine Corogenes.

In what will be one of the best matchups of the PPV card, Bubba Jenkins faces Brendan Loughnane for the 2022 PFL Lightweight Championship.  I was able to interview both last month as they prepared for the fight.

PFL 10 takes place on Friday, November 25th. The ESPN portion of the card will start 3pm PST and the PPV on ESPN+ will take place at 5pm PST.

People who do martial arts will laugh and tell me it’s fake. But then I ask them why they do martial arts? 😉

I should point out that according to those at TKO that the ESPN/MVPW boxing deal is a revenue sharing agreement similar to the original AEW/Turner deal in 2019 and not a full paying media rights deal which Top Rank had and wasn't renewed.
