Bellator-Rizin announce joint New Year’s Eve show

October 24, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Bellator and Rizin announced a joint New Year’s Eve card on Monday.  The event will take place at the Saitama Super Arena outside Tokyo on December 31 and will feature five bouts with Bellator fighters going against Rizin.

No specific bouts were announced although Bellator indicated that Patricio “Pitbull” Freire, AJ McKee, Juan Archuleta and Kyoji Horiguchi will be a part of the card. Currently signed to Bellator, Horiguchi is actually the Rizin champion at 135 pounds.  He was a part of the Bellator-Rizin co-promotion in New York in 2019 when he defeated Darrion Caldwell.

Announcements on matchups will take place at a press conference on Wednesday.

Payout Perspective:

We await Wednesday’s announcements to see what type of matchups the two promotions will do.  The two promotions have had co-promotions in the past which is good for fans of both promotions. Will this talent sharing be more than just once a year? Would it possibly include the UFC? Ok, no to the last question. But the talent trading looks like something that can be beneficial to both sides.
