Nevada agrees to regulate Dana White’s Power Slap League

October 19, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Slap Fighting is going to be a real thing.  At its monthly meeting on Tuesday, it agreed to regulate Dana White-owned league for slap fighting. The league will be known as Dana White’s Power Slap League.

The UFC’s chief business officer Hunter Campbell made a presentation before the commission in which he stated that the sport employs strategy and that the participants are in shape to do it.

Campbell told the Commission that the ownership group, which includes Campbell and Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta, has been beta-testing the sport for a year.  He stated that the sport is growing in popularity but with “warehouse” events.  Through regulation Campbell hopes it will ensure fighter safety and matchmaking integrity.

Payout Perspective:

This MMA Junkie editorial brings up the issue with the sport as the inherent nature of the sport prevents a participant from protecting themselves from brain trauma.  But, the investors, which included Dana White and the Fertitta brothers  believe that this sportification of this will make money.  Certainly events can be readily available for Fight Pass and even on ESPN.  Content, once again seems to be a paramount asset here and with the marketing and brand strength of the UFC, its hard to think that Slap Fighting will be flash in the pan.
