One Championship says its landed a US media deal

March 28, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

According to a report from the South China Morning Post, One Championship will be announcing a media rights deal in the US.

A quote from CEO Chatri Sityodtong indicated that the deal will be announced in mid-April.

It’s a very big deal, a US prime time, multi-year deal. The first time in the history of ONE we will be on a regular prime time schedule on a major, major broadcaster in the US…

Sityodtong spoke to media after the promotion’s big One X event this past weekend.

Payout Perspective:

As we know with One Championship, a lot of the talk has to be taken with a grain of salt.  While it is well-funded according to its finances, its forays into the US have been less than popular.  Its telecasts on TNT did not produce a blip in ratings which might be due in part to its poor time slots occurring late at night for most viewers.  What a “prime time” schedule and a “major broadcaster” means to the reader may be interpretive so I would not expect a mainstream network jumping in with a promotion that does not have a track record in the US.  While I can see a streaming deal, a tv deal in the US may be with a fringe cable network.  But, if they can get their programming during prime slots it might get more traffic than it did with Turner.
