Masvidal gets new contract and is top 5 in UFC pay despite no one knowing how much fighters are paid

March 4, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Jorge Masvidal has signed a new multi-fight contract with the UFC which apparently makes him one of the top 5 highest-paid fighter in the UFC.  Of course, no specifics have come out about the contract for the 37-year-old Masvidal.

Masvidal’s manager Malki Kawa confirmed the news of the signing indicating that after months of negotiations they came to an agreement which should go until the end of his career.

Since the UFC is very secretive about the pay information, there’s no way to confirm the news other than from inferences that he’s getting paid among the likes of Conor McGregor and Israel Adesanya.  Notably, the middleweight champion inked a new deal prior to his last title defense which purportedly made him the second-highest paid fighter in the UFC.

During Thursday’s Press Conference, Masvidal kept referring to the fact that Colby Covington was not getting a PPV upside for their fight this Saturday. Of course, the inference is that Masvidal is receiving PPV points.

Although not confirmed, Conor McGregor remains the promotion’s top-paid star despite losing his last two fights in the Octagon.

Payout Perspective:

The boasting and bragging of being one of the highest-paid is great. But without any concrete numbers the media just has to go along with the belief that this is the truth.  The UFC and the commission’s it works with are cracking down on the release of pay information so much so that its pretty clear we will be at a point where combat sports pay will not be released unless it benefits the promotion that pays the money.  So, here we are with the tag that Masvidal is one of the company’s top paid fighters.  While a draw, his claim to fame is a running knee to a sloppy takedown attempt by Ben Askren.  If he loses to Covington on Saturday, the new signing may not look so good for the UFC.

A vote is not expected during Friday’s DI Cabinet call regarding the NCAA’s proposed 5-year, age-based eligibility rule. Discussion on the topic is expected to continue with action now anticipated at their next meeting the week of June 22.

Overwhelming support remains.
