Piccolotti suspended after social media video showing extreme weight cutting

February 23, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Social media foils another MMA fighter as the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic suspended Adam Piccolotti for six months after he posted that he had thrown up “20-plus times” during the weight cut ahead of Bellator 274. The suspension is a sign that the commission is serious about doing away with unhealthy weight cuts.

The Mohegan Tribe also suspended Piccolotti’s three cornermen for their roles in the situation.  A now-deleted video on social media shows Piccolotti being helped into a portable sauna so he could cut more weights.

The Bellator lightweight defeated Georgi Karakhanyan by unanimous decision this past Saturday at the Mohegan Sun Arena.  The Association of Boxing Commissions president called the move “unnecessarily dangerous.”

Piccolotti will have to receive clearance from a nephrologist after his suspension before fighting again.

Payout Perspective:

Probably a good thing that Piccolotti posted the video because if he wasn’t caught, he would continue to cut weight this way.  A good move by the commission to take a serious stance against these methods.  Its an old way to cut weight and extremely dangerous for a fighter’s health.
