Julianna Pena signs sponsor deal with Jones Soda, Co

January 26, 2022 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Seattle-based original craft soda company Jones Soda has signed a sponsorship deal with UFC Champion Julianna Pena.

Via Jones Soda, Inc.

Pena dethroned Amanda Nunes for the UFC women’s Bantamweight Championship late last year.  Although Pena no longer trains in Washington state, she was originally from Spokane, Washington and trained in the area.

Pena will be on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast today and will likely promote the brand. Per the release, she “will wear the Jones logo on her fight apparel, as well as promote Jones by wearing the Company’s t-shirts and other branded merchandise in media appearance and through brand references on her social media platforms.”

There is also the possibility of collaborating on future soda flavors.

Payout Perspective:

Good news for the new champ and we will see how her marketing efforts will be versus those of the previous champion.  There may have been a certain tie-in with her northwest roots and perhaps a sign that the UFC may be looking at another official sponsor in the future.  It wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that the UFC has an official soda for the company although one would think they would attempt to go bigger with a Pepsi or Coke. With the company allowing her to wear the logo on her fight apparel it should tell you that the UFC may be looking at them as an official sponsor.

Interesting - in the early 2000s, HBO had to defend "de facto" promoter allegations in front of Congress. If DAZN uses licensed promoters to organize the fights, it's hard to call them a "promoter." SRL signed deals with ABC and HBO without having a promoter, so it's been done.
