NEDS makes its biggest splash at UFC 266

September 27, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

UFC 266 saw Australian sports-betting and gaming company Neds on the mats and in the Octagon as Alexander Volkanovski earned a unanimous decision victory over Brian Ortega.

The partnership began this summer when the Australia-based sports wagering company forged a deal with the UFC to become the “Official Wagering Partner of the UFC” in Australia.

With the legalization of sports betting, this space will become more valuable in the future. The UFC will (or has) broker deals with sports wagering companies across the world which will help with sponsorship revenues. The UFC and DraftKings reached a deal to become the UFC’s First Official Exclusive Sportsbook and Daily Fantasy Partner in the U.S. and Canada.

Payout Perspective:

The obvious tie-in with Volkanovski on Saturday made sense considering that a lot of Australians would be watching the fight.  The sports betting and wagering industry is on the rise and the UFC’s strong demos are a plus and make it an attractive entity to sponsor.

Interesting - in the early 2000s, HBO had to defend "de facto" promoter allegations in front of Congress. If DAZN uses licensed promoters to organize the fights, it's hard to call them a "promoter." SRL signed deals with ABC and HBO without having a promoter, so it's been done.
