A class action lawsuit was filed by a Bronx, NY blind man stating that Floyd Mayweather, Jr.’s web site does not provide for blind individuals.
Jose Quezada filed the lawsuit on May 25th in the U.S. District for the Southern District of New York citing violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Via the Plaintiff’s lawsuit:
“Plaintiff most recently visited Defendant’s website in May of 2021 to browse and potentially make a purchase. Despite his efforts, however, Plaintiff was denied a user experience similar to that of a sighted individual due to the website’s lack of a variety of features and accommodations, which effectively barred Plaintiff from being able to enjoy the privileges and benefits of Defendant’s public accommodation…”
The lawsuit goes through the Mayweather web site finding flaws within it and noting how it does not cater to the vision-impaired. It requests a preliminary and permanent injunction which would order Mayweather to “take all the steps necessary to make its Website into full compliance with the requirements set forth in the ADA…”
Payout Perspective:
Bear in mind this is a fan that wanted to purchase something from Floyd Mayweather’s web site but could not because it didn’t provide access to him due to the fact he is visually impaired. While one might think this lawsuit may be on a nuisance-level, there is some merit to it for those that are unable to access places due to a disability. We may see Mayweather representatives offer the Plaintiff compensation in addition to making changes to the web site and while that may be seen as a move to grab at money the lawsuit does not ask for monetary damages other than compensatory relief (not actual damages) which would not be huge as well as attorneys fees. MPO will continue to follow.
