Canadian Heavyweight Mladen Miljas has filed an amended complaint against Greg Cohen and his promotional company as a result of alleged breach of contract. The lawsuit arises out of Miljas’ disappointment with the representation of Cohen.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court of Iowa, last year is based on the boxer’s displeasure with Cohen as his promoter. He cites the failure to get him a fight which would help with his career and the inability to provide him four fights in a year. Cohen claims that Miljas turned down fights.
The Amended Complaint cites the heavyweight’s issue with Cohen:
Miljas attempted to send a notice to Cohen that he breached their agreement and gave him an opportunity to cure.
Cohen responded by denying a breach and citing the fact that Miljas turned down fights.
Payout Perspective:
This lawsuit will continue and may be hotly contested. Its another example of fighter versus promoter. Here, the issue relates to a fighter not happy with the direction that his career was going and a promoter claiming that they have done their best to get what the fighter wants. Its notable that Miljas reviewed the contract and attempted to rectify his displeasure through the process via notice and giving the promoter a time to cure but Cohen denied this right. One would assume that the parties could have worked it out, but it looks as though one side may not have been willing.
