Ennis case settled with Middendorf

May 18, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The Jaron Ennis case is over. A minute order issued on Monday indicated that the parties advised the Court of the settlement.

The case was getting set for trial in federal district court in Iowa.  The parties had filed their pre-trial documents including jury instructions, voir dire (questions to ask of potential jurors) and trial briefs.

TEXT ORDER for Closing Documents. The Court was advised by counsel that this case has settled. Closing documents (i.e., a stipulated dismissal signed by counsel for both parties) shall be filed by June 17, 2021.
The settlement likely frees up Ennis from his contractual dispute with promoter Victory Boxing and Chris Middendorf.

The lawsuit arose out of an alleged breach of contract filed by Middendorf. Ennis claimed that he was represented by Cameron Dunkin. The facts of the case claimed a business relationship between Middendorf and Dunkin although an unspecified business relationship was set up. Middendorf claimed that Ennis did not communicate with him after claiming to be signed up with the Dunkins.

The settlement probably is a relief for both sides considering one never knows what a jury would do or how it would rule.
