In an interview with UFC lightweight Jim Miller, he revealed that he was paid “a fraction” of his fight purse for his bout with Bobby Green at UFC 258. Unfortunately for Green, he fainted at weigh-ins and the fight was called off.
Miller stated in an interview with Just Scrap Radio, that he was given “a few thousand dollars” with a promise that the promotion would book him again soon. The promotion did book him against Joe Solecki on April 10th on UFC on ABC 2.
Miller’s last fight happened this past August, a loss to Vinc Pichel.
Miller’s last reported payday was $104,000 to win and $104,000 to show.
Payout Perspective:
Unfortunately, UFC contracts likely allow the company to rebook a fight without having to pay the fighter for a cancelled fight. The “few thousand dollars” Miller was given was likely ‘good faith’ money for the UFC vet. But, there is nothing in the contract that gives Miller the right to collect his full fight purse. Certainly, having to go through the time and effort for a fight camp (not to mention the financial expense) only to have something out of your hands cancel the fight appears to be unfair for the fighter. One would hope this change in the future.
