Broner’s return on Showtime peaks at 304K viewers

February 24, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Adrien Broner returned to boxing on Saturday night on Showtime and the ratings were impacted by ESPN’s Top Rank telecast.

Broner defeated Jovanie Santiago on Saturday night from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.  The peak of the three-fight telecast drew 304,000 viewers during the Broner fight.  The fight drew an average audience of 288,000 per Nielsen Media Research.

Prior to the main event, the opening fight between Robert Easter, Jr. and Ryan Martin drew 234,000 viewers.  The fight peaked at 273,000.  Easter, Jr. won via unanimous decision in a battle of junior welterweights.  The second fight featured heavyweights as Otto Walllin earned a unanimous-decision victory over Dominic Breazeale.  It drew an average of 272,000 viewers and a peak of 291,000.

Payout Perspective:

On ESPN, the Top Rank main event between Oscar Valdez and Miguel Berchelt averaged 895,000 viewers and topped out at 960,000 viewers.  Something to note is that the ratings do not reflect any streaming viewership on Showtime.  Still, Broner is usually a ratings hit on the network.  However, it appears that at least for now, he’s lost his appeal.
