Top Rank Boxing draws 771K for Berchelt/Valdez

February 23, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Top Rank Boxing on Saturday night drew 771,000 viewers according to Nielsen via ShowBuzz Daily.  The telecast featured Miguel Berchelt taking on Oscar Valdez. In an upset Valdez knocked out Berchelt to win the WBC super featherweight title.

Valdez took out the previously undefeated Berchelt in the 10th round of their 12th round matchup.  The telecast drew 326,000 viewers in the A18-49 demo and a 0.47 household rating.

The telecast improves upon the February 13th telecast which drew 584,000 viewers but aired opposite a UFC PPV.  This past Saturday the telecast’s main event aired right after the UFC on ESPN+ event which made it opportune for fight fans to watch the main event which was very exciting as Valdez hurt Berchelt early while the former champ held on as long as he could.

Payout Perspective:

The telecast was promoted thoroughly on multiple ESPN platforms as well as during programming which likely helped.  I do not recall ESPN putting this much effort in promoting a title fight but this seemed to help out.  Also, the crossover with the UFC event ending on ESPN+ probably aided in getting some over to the network to watch the rest of the telecast.
