Gina Carano fired by Lucasfilm and UTA for social media posts

February 11, 2021 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Former MMA fighter Gina Carano was fired from her role on the Disney series, “The Mandalorian” as a result of inflammatory social media posts.

The former Strikeforce competitor compared Republicans in this political climate to Holocaust victims in Nazi Germany.  Carano is no stranger to social media political statements as she has made inflammatory posts in the past with cryptic meanings mostly about government mind control.

Carano was a recurring character on the widely popular Disney Plus, “The Mandalorian.”  Another take on the Star Wars universe.

According to Variety, Carano was dropped by Lucasfilm as well as her agency, UTA. “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” said a Lucasfilm spokesperson in a statement. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Payout Perspective:

For those that think that Gina Carano has a First Amendment right to speak her mind.  That is correct.  Also, a private company such as Disney and/or Lucasfilm has the right to fire her.  The two things don’t have to equal.  One has to think Carano knew that she could be subject to ridicule and even be fired for what she put out on social media.  Consequences for actions are still a thing and the fake ‘cancel culture’ belief is a denial of the circumstances one chooses.  Carano leaves behind a potential partnership with one of the biggest franchises ever, a spinoff of “The Mandalorian,” not to mention a lot of money to be a martyr for something she believes.
