UFC Vegas 18 took place on Saturday night at The Apex in Las Vegas. Cory Sandhagen’s jumping knee to stop Frankie Edgar headlined the bonus winners for tonight.
Sandhagen showed he’s worth the winner of Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling as he stopped Edgar in the very first round. He earned a $50K performance bonus. Also a performance winner was main event winner Alexander Volkov as he dominated his fight with Alistair Overeem causing a second round stoppage.
The Fight of the Night went to Beneil Dariush and Carlos Diego Ferreira for their fight which Dariush won via split decision. It was a solid back and forth slugfest between the two ranked lightweights.
Payout Perspective:
It was not a good night to be an older fighter unless you were Clay Guida who won his fight against Michael Johnson on Saturday. After losing to Sterling in June, Sandhagen has come back with two impressive wins to fight his way back to the top of the bantamweight rankings. Volkov’s win inches him up closer in the UFC Heavyweight rankings.
