Rumors are floating around that Garcia and Manny Pacquiao will fight this year. Although nothing has been locked down, the sponsorship deal comes at the right time. The 22-year-old is coming off a 7th round TKO of Luke Campbell to win the WBC interim lightweight title this month.
Garcia is massively popular as he has 8.4 million Instagram followers. Garcia mentioned that a few years ago he had tagged Gatorade in a social media post and now he’s a part of the team.
Garcia joins the likes of Fernando Tatis, Jr. Zion Williamson and Jason Tatum as young up-and-coming athletes sponsored by Gatorade.
Payout Perspective:
The deal makes sense for Gatorade as Garcia could be the new, fresh face of boxing. He’s young, good-looking and can draw cross-over from the Hispanic market. You may recall that the UFC’s Jon Jones had a sponsor deal years ago. We will see if Gatorade pursues an MMA star and/or another boxer in the near future.
