UFC on ABC 1 took place Saturday afternoon and showed that Max Holloway is still on top of his game.
Holloway defeated Calvin Kattar in the Fight of the Night in Abu Dhabi. While Kattar was game in their main event matchup, Holloway proved he was a level-above giving the network audience a great showcase for the promotion. Main card fights earned the other two $50K bonuses.
Alessio Di Chirico’s upset victory over Joaquin Buckley scored him a Performance of the Night Bonus. Buckley, who scored two Performance Bonuses in 2020, was on the bad end of a bonus as he was knocked out by Di Chirico. Li Jingliang also had an impressive KO of Santiago Ponzinibbio to earn himself a $50K bonus.
Payout Perspective:
Holloway was impressive with his speed and even showboated toward the end of the fight. It would be hard to put Holloway in a position to face Alexander Volkanovski a third time when he’s lost the past two. But, he is still on top of his game and will be in main events and perhaps biding his time until Volkanovski drops the title.
