Khamzat Chimaev withdrew from his bout against Leon Edwards next month due to complications from COVID-19 according to a report from MMA Junkie.
This is the second time that this fight has been postponed. Edwards tested positive for COVID-19 which postponed their December 20th showdown.
The undefeated Chimaev also tested positive for COVID-19 in December and x-rays reveal that his lungs haven’t fully recovered. Their January 20th showdown will be rescheduled once again.
The January 20th event is set to take place on Fight Island. Edwards is still seeking out an opponent to replace Chimaev.
Payout Perspective:
COVID-19 once again takes another fight but this time the reason is something that most people have not covered. The after-effects of COVID-19. Lungs are very important to a fighter and if the disease is still affecting him, he cannot fight. It’s hard to know about his prognosis but one would hope the up-and-coming welterweight returns soon.
