McGregor-Poirier II set for UFC 257

November 19, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Conor McGregor’s return to the Octagon is finally set as he is scheduled to face Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 on January 23rd.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani was first to report that McGregor signed his bout agreement.  Poirier had signed his last week.  The fight was in the making on social media as the two fighters exchanged pleasantries about a fight they wanted to happen.

This will be their second fight as they faced one another at UFC 178 in September 2014.  McGregor made quick work of Poirier as he stopped him in the first round of their matchup.  Much has changed since that fight as Poirier has gone 10-2 and 1 no contest since they last met.  McGregor has gone 6-3 since that fight and also boxed Floyd Mayweather.

Payout Perspective:

The event will fit in nicely as it takes place prior to Championship Sunday in the NFL and marks the return of McGregor after a year’s absence from MMA.  The fight should be a nice kickoff for the UFC in 2021 as it pits the biggest star in the UFC versus one of the best lightweights in the world.  The hope would be that it will have fans in the stands and that would mean Cowboys Stadium as a possible venue.

🚨🚨🚨Trump on Truth Social: Israel, out of anger for what has taken place in the Middle East, has violently lashed out at a major facility known as South Pars Gas Field in Iran. A relatively small section of the whole has been hit. The United States knew nothing about this

Contrary to Trump’s statements, senior Israeli and U.S. officials said that the United States had prior knowledge of the Israeli strike and even approved it in an attempt to pressure Iran. After the Iranians retaliated against Qatar’s gas fields, Trump is now changing course
