Wave.tv is an upstart in digital media company having secured $32 million this past summer to fund an expansion. The Series A round of equity and debt vallueas the company between $50M and $100M according to the company’s president, Ishaan Sutaria. The company’s strategy in expansion was to focus on events not covered by most sports media. According to a WSJ article this past summer, the company leverages content from sports leagues and organization “to program 18themed media brands across platforms” which include Snapchat, Instagram and TikTok. Wave.tv shares the ad revenue it generates with its content partners.
Notably, 80% of Wave.tv’s overall viewing came from videos from nontraditional sports. One would think that MMA is right in this wheelhouse.
Payout Perspective:
Preparing for its upcoming season in 2021 after taking 2020 off due to the pandemic, the PFL has made efforts in using technology in promoting its brand. In addition to the launch of its first OTT platform and PFL studios, it is also promoting enhanced analytics to its Smartcage this upcoming season. The efforts to promote the brand on social media make sense considering the enormous amount of users that are on the variety of platforms right now.
