PFL women’s champ Harrison fighting in Invicta

November 9, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

PFL Champion Kayla Harrison is scheduled to take on Courtney King at Invicta FC 43 on November 20th according to a press release.  This crossover fight at featherweight presents an interesting scenario in which a champion of another organization is making an appearance in another.

The Professional Fighter’s League announced this past spring, that it was cancelling its 2020 season due to the COVID-19 outbreak.  The PFL announced that the organization would begin with its 2021 season in April.

Harrison, the PFL champion in the women’s lightweight division last fought in December 2019 when she defeated Larissa Pacheco to win the division for the season.  Harrison is 7-0 an undefeated in her MMA career.

She is a two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo and has not been challenged in any of her professional MMA fights.

The event will be aired on UFC Fight Pass.

Lance Palmer claimed that he was filing a lawsuit against the PFL for putting the season on hold in 2020.  As of this date, there is no news on a lawsuit.

Payout Perspective:

The news of the crossover fight peaked the interest of several women fighters including Cris “Cyborg” Justino.

This fight may be meant to appease Harrison who is one of the PFL’s biggest stars.  Although some PFL fighters are receiving stipends, it likely is not enough especially during the pandemic.  With this crossover fight, will we see more?  One has to think that there has to be some concerns for the PFL if she gets hurt and cannot participate in 2021, but its something that they are risking in order to making their fighter happy.
