Marlon Moraes tests positive for COVID-19

July 14, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

ESPN reports that UFC bantamweight Marlon Moraes has tested positive for COVID-19.  Despite his diagnosis and  suffering from symptoms he has agreed to a fight with Cody Garbrandt.

Moraes, who challenged for the belt against Henry Cejudo last year, is at home recovering and quarantining.  The Brazilian agreed to the fight with Garbrandt and stated that he is looking to do it in October.

Moraes stated that he was very weak and that his wife also tested positive.  Although he did not have to be treated in the hospital, his wife did have to go and stayed for observation.

Payout Perspective:

It appears that Moraes should be able to go by October although we do not fully know the effects of the virus.  As it relates to the challengers for Yan, Moraes appears to concede that despite being the top-ranked contender, he will forego the first shot for Garbrandt.  This may make sense especially now with the COVID-19 diagnosis.
