Main event participant out of Top Rank event due to manager positive test

June 18, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Multiple reports cite that Mikkel LesPierre has been taken off of Top Rank’s card tonight due to his manager testing positive for COVID-19.  His manager, Jose Tavares, had been in direct contact with the boxer and based on Nevada protocol needs to be quarantined and thus removed from tonight’s fight.  LesPierre was scheduled to fight Jose Pedraza in the main event of Thursday’s telecast.

Breaking: Tonight’s Jose Pedraza vs Mikkel LesPierre Top Rank on ESPN fight is off. Per my source, LesPierre’s manager Jose Tavares tested postitive for the coronavirus. #boxing

This was the third instance a fight has been affected due to a positive COVID-19 test.  Mikaela Mayer was pulled from her co-headlining spot last week.  On Tuesday Chris Zavala was prevented from fighting against Eddie Vazquez and now LesPierre is out of his fight Thursday.

Payout Perspective:

The Nevada Athletic Commission protocols have been put in place as preventative measure to ensure that the spread of the COVID-19 virus does not spread. As a result, they need to be vigilant in preventing people from interacting with others even if they are asymptomatic. This is unfortunate but necessary as medical experts do not know the lasting effects of the virus.
