Khabib-Tony off due to travel restrictions

March 30, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Khabib-Tony will have to be postponed yet again as the lightweight champion is stuck in Dagestan due to travel restrictions due to the global pandemic from the coronavirus.

Nurmogomedov gave a status of his whereabouts on an Instagram Live Monday.  He indicated that he had flown to the United Arab Emirates on March 19th or 20th but when he learned of the country lockdown he flew home to Russia.  UAE was one of the locations that allegedly Dana White had planned to hold UFC 249 after the United States shutdown to curtail the spread of Covid-19.

UFC 249 may still go forward as Nurmogomedov indicated that the promotion was offering Ferguson fights in lieu of the chance at the lightweight title.

Payout Perspective:

It appears that the MMA gods will not let this fight occur.  For the fifth time this fight has been postponed.  This time, a global pandemic stopped the two from fighting.  With The White House issuing guidelines to continue social distancing through April 30th, the event may have to be postponed.  As Nurmogomedov found out, travel restrictions are preventing people from flying to another country as most are under quarantine.  If and when this fight takes place is anyone’s guess.
