The Payout Pick: Jones-Reyes

February 8, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

It has been almost 9 years since Jon Jones won the UFC light heavyweight title.  Jon Jones faces another challenger to his light heavyweight title in Dominick Reyes at UFC 247 in Houston.  A huge favorite, Jones looks to successfully defend his title yet again. But can Reyes score the upset.

Notwithstanding his no-contest against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 in July 2017, Jones has been flawless in his title defense.  Yet again, Jones faces a power puncher that could knock Jones off his throne.  But is Reyes a viable threat?  Certainly, the undefeated Reyes is the next up in competition for Jones and is deserved of the title shot. But, he has not gone 5 rounds and his cardio will be a question for the former college football player.

At a +360 underdog according to Sportsline.com (a +375 longshot at Bovada) , Reyes is not being given a shot to dethrone Jones who is a -460 favorite (-550 per Bovada).  Reyes has the KO power to stop Jones but the question will be whether he can do that early and if he can withstand Jones exceptional use of his length and control of distance in fights.

Reyes will have to get Jones out early, say within the first two rounds, for any shot to score the upset.  But the longer the fight, the less chance Reyes has with a veteran like Jones.

MPO picks Jones to dominate this fight and score a unanimous decision over Reyes.

Wait, is this for real? Trump spent $60 million of our taxpayer funds to host a UFC fight and then is selling UFC coin to line his family’s pockets. The Trump corruption swamp is a mile deep.
