Pineda handed 6-month suspension, fine after October drug test failure

January 23, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

PFL fighter Daniel Pineda’s case regarding an October drug test failure came to a resolution without even an appearance by the fighter at the hearing.  With his admittance of using a banned substance, a lengthier suspension was reduced to just six months, a fine and restatement once a clean sample was provided.

Pineda missed the PFL Featherweight Finals due to the failed drug test in October.  He has been out of action since then.  Based upon the ruling on Wednesday, Pineda will be able to return in April pending payment of a $12,500 fine, $981.18 in prosecution fee and clean drug test samples.

Pineda or his representatives were not present at the hearing.

Payout Perspective:

It seems as though the resolution was a formality for the public hearing as Pineda nor his reps were present at the commission meeting.  The 6-month suspension is relatively tame although he did miss out on the chance of a bigger purse with the PFL final.  This probably played into the NAC punishment.  With the PFL roster turning over, we will see if Pineda returns.
