UFC 212 Prelims has split ratings due to MLB overrrun

June 6, 2017 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The UFC 212 Prelims which aired on FS1 drew 732,000 viewers.  The live broadcast was split in two due to an MLB overrun on FS1.  The broadcast on FS2 drew 218,000 viewers per Nielsen via ShowBuzz Daily.

UPDATED:  UFC 212 Prelims on FS1 drew 373,000 viewers in the A18-49 demo per Nielsen.

The event featured the debut of Marlon Moraes as he faced Raphael Assuncao.  Unfortunately for the former WSOF champ, he dropped a decision to Assuncao.

The beginning of the broadcast, which may have been lost to DVR viewers, featured the debut of Brian Kelleher as he stunned Iuri Alcantara in the first fight of the telecast.  It drew 0.29 in the A18-49 demo on FS1 per the 88 minutes on the network.  On FS2, it drew 0.08 in the A18-49 demo for the 38 minutes on the network.

UFC PPV Prelims 2017

UFC 208 Prelims  824,000 (FS1)

UFC 209 Prelims  1,033,000 (FS1)

UFC 210 Prelims  723,000 (FS1)

UFC 211 Prelims 1.184 million (FX)

UFC 212 prelims 218,000 (FS2); 732,000 (FS1)

Payout Perspective:

You might argue that the ratings took a hit considering the overrun caused the start of UFC 212 to be moved to FS2.  However, the average viewership is below the 2017 average of 941,000.  The average UFC PPV Prelims ratings through 5 events in 2016 was 1,059,000.  MLB might hurt the UFC programming but helps FS1 overall so the shuffling will continue.  We shall see if we can read in the ratings as it might equate for PPV buys for 212.
