Dana White has reversed course and announced that Michael Bisping will defend his middleweight title against Yoel Romero and the announced fight with Georges St-Pierre is off for now.
White told UFC Fox Australia that Bisping will defend his UFC middleweight title against Yoel Romero. Although nothing officially announced, one suspects that the fight will be at UFC 213 on July 8th as the main event of International Fight Week.
The change probably has to do with a video message put out by GSP this week which said he’d be ready for Bisping in “any time after October.”
Payout Perspective:
The change likely has to do with the concern that the middleweight title would be held up until Bisping-GSP. Certainly, Bisping has to be as upset as GSP since The Count was looking for the biggest payday of his career. It looks like he’ll have to beat Romero for another shot at GSP. Then again, Demian Maia-Jorge Masvidal wait on deck for a shot at that title.
