2 live events headline changes to International Fight Week

April 8, 2017 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The UFC announced that International Fight Week will have two live fight events this year instead of three days of fights as in year’s past.  In addition, there will not be a UFC Expo but a Fan Experience on Friday and Saturday of International Fight Week.

The UFC made the announcement via press release on Saturday.

The Ultimate Fighter Finale event will take place on Friday, July 7th and will occur at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.  UFC 213 will take place on Saturday, July 8th in the same venue.

The UFC Fan Experience will occur Friday and Saturday in Toshiba Plaza and “The Park,” the area adjacent to T-Mobile Arena.  Previously, the UFC Fan Expo took place at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Other changes include the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony taking place on Thursday, July 5 instead of Sunday of International Fight Week as done last year.

Payout Perspective:

The change eliminates a Fight Night held on Thursday.  In addition, last year the first two events took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.  As the UFC is now one of T-Mobile’s anchor tenants, it makes sense for the change.  T-Mobile is a bigger venue and also has an area in front to hold a UFC-type event.  The size of the venue may have made the UFC decide to consolidate events rather than to hold three in the same week.
