UFC 207 early PPV estimates: 1.1M buys

January 6, 2017 by Jason Cruz 11 Comments

UFC 207 looks to have done well on PPV as initial estimates by The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer have the PPV at 1.1 million buys.

UFC 207 featured the return of Ronda Rousey as she faced Amanda Nunes for the UFC bantamweight title.  Nunes stopped Rousey in the first round.

The 1.1 million PPV buys ties UFC 193 as the largest buy rate for a Ronda Rousey headlined event.

UFC 193 – 1.1M

UFC 190 – 900,000

UFC 184 – 600,000

UFC 170 – 350,000

UFC 157 – 450,000

Payout Perspective:

The buy rates do not include the events where Rousey was the co-headliner with Chris Weidman (UFC 162 and UFC 168).  UFC 168 drew 1.025M buys but was the return of Weidman-Silva.  It was also Tate-Rousey.  UFC 207 reflects the Rousey demo.  The PPV was not hurt due to the PPV being on Friday night or the fact she did not do the regular media rounds to promote the fight.  You probably cannot turn your back on the media all the time but the fact that Rousey was returning provided some extra interest for her fans.  It also shows the niche that she has carved out and if she were to retire, would there be another woman fighter that could garner this much attention.

I remember idiots crying because 157 was headlined by two women ahead of Henderson Vs Machida, now that notion seems laughable.

Great number for a Fri, doing no media and fighting someone like Nunes who isnt a big name.

Had it been on a Sat, she did media and Holm or even Tate was till champ it would have broken UFC PPV record.

UFC had an amazing run, 5 PPV in a year doing over a million buys, 7 PPV in last 14 months doing over a million. Thats incredible.

But with no Ronda, McGregor out for half the year, no Brock/Jones until summer, no GSP and no UFC 200 they are gonna have a much weaker year on PPV in 2017.

They need McGregor to fight twice, they need Brock to come back, maybe do Brock/Jones and they need to get GSP back.

Wow. Big numbers despite the low press and media blackout by Rousey. That’s impressive.

Why people think Ronda not coming back? Money talks and she still want that rematch with Holly. It will happen later this year.

Conor definitely want and need money. I am sure gsp is running dry. Rumble vs Jones is a legit potential 800K plus ppv main event. 4 to 5 events.

If Manny is still boxing for money after the Mayweather fight, I will never believe the theory fighters have enough money.

Sad but true. I’m still not sold on Ronda’s career out of the cage. The reason she had that career is because of what she was doing in the cage. After two horrendous performances, I don’t know what she has left in the cage or out of it. At least she goes out with a bang. $3M base + whatever her share of PPV points (another $5M?)

This isn’t boxing you don’t get easy fights, Conor just beat two champions, Ronda beat all the top coñtenders then lost, then came straight back and fought the champion and lost again both weren’t hype jobs.

RDA just lost two in a row, he was champion in July, Pettis can’t buy a win he was looking unstoppable for a while, Chris Weidman is the same, it’s hard facing great fighters one after another.

Boxing constantly talks about Floyd coming back, Brock isnt leaving big money on the table if he can get it and you can talk about CM Punk but Floyd, 50 & Tyson are getting Chris Brown Vs Soulja Boy, Chris Brown is a women beatinf scum bag (like Tyson & Floyd) but he’ll easily beat a guy who looks like his only exercise is smoking weed.

No one disappeared most couldn’t be bothered replying to you about the stupid shit you say like the UFC is trying to save money by selling their old offices and moving to a bigger more expensive one (why would they need two Las Vegas offices?

Diego, I bet she made even more than that from ppv. Fighters are clearly getting paid a lot more these days than they were previously and with a huge buy rate like that, she likely made over 10m considering her up front purse was 3m.

It was UFC’s fifth 1 million-plus buy show of 2016. The only sport in history that had ever had three 1 million buy shows in the same year was boxing, which did it in 1996, during the heyday of Mike Tyson, who fought three times that year, and in 2011.
