UFC 205 is set to debut in New York and will likely set gate records and will flirt with the company’s PPV buy record. Capitalizing on his brand, it’s headliner, Conor McGregor has filed for trademarks in Ireland.
According to the Irish Patents office, McGregor’s company, McGregor Sports and Entertainment Limited has filed for “The Notorious,” “Conor McGregor,” and “The Mac Life.” Notably, as of this date, McGregor has not filed for similar trademarks with the USPTO
We may assume that McGregor is seeking to monetize his brand by filing for these trademarks.
McGregor might run into some legal issues with obtaining the marks as there are similar trademarks already on file with the Irish Patents Office.
Of course, the global popularity of McGregor means that his trademark is available all over the world. Per a Law360.com article the U.K, an individual has applied for the marks, “The Notorious Conor McGregor,” “Conor The Notorious McGregor,” and “Conor McGregor The Notorious.” The person has also obtained domain names with similar names with the champion. At this point, the individual has yet to officially obtain the marks.
Payout Perspective:
You may recall Ronda Rousey applied for trademarks with the USPTO regarding potential business opportunities. It appears that McGregor will do something similar. McGregor may be a little late with filing for his marks and it seems as though he should have applied for international trademark protection earlier on in his career. Obviously, it was up to him and his management team on a business strategy and obtaining trademarks is one of the details needed to monetize a brand.

When’s his wwe debut? After yesterday’s press conference his act is stale.

Mayweather’s was similar, only difference is McGregor actually fights when he competes.

McGregor turned his back on Diaz and ran away trying to catch his breath. It was cowardly and unprofessional.
In boxing, turning your back on your opponent will get get a very stern warning for the ref.and if you do it again you are disqualified.
Turning your back and running away, like McGregor did, is a sign of submission and few boxers ever do that unless they want a way out of the fight by way of DQ.

More like no entertainment, a routine snooze fest, fight avoidance, cowardly behavior in the ring, etc. on the part of Mayweather. The opposite of McGregor who’s fights are very entertaining.

Frenchie,
The first 30 seconds of McGregor’s fight with Diaz had more action in it than Mayweather’s entire career.
There is nothing cowardly about gassing and trying to find a second wind.
In boxing, not only is running away from action not penalized, it is routine and sadly encouraged. If those guys fought like McGregor, they’d have people actually watching their fights.
Boxing has turned into dancing with the stars on a championship level with the exception of someone like GGG. The rest of the sport is a complete joke and they could learn a thing or two from watching McGregor fight. He brings it.

Also, on a side note, the UFC released its first qtr schedule next year and it appears that they will not be cutting events despite what was being reported. From January to March 18th, there will be 10 events. Seems like they are on pace to do at least 40 next year.

Go watch Mayweather’s fights between 1996 and 2006 and you’ll see him mix it up with his opponents and produce KOs. He began to fight defensively around 2007 when he fought Oscar. It was a smart business move and it paid off big time.
Boxing is full of hard boxers who bring it aside from GGG. Look at David Lemieux, Keith Thurman, Canelo, Anthony Joshua, Joseph Parker, Deontay Wilder, Sergey Kovalev, Artur Beterbiev, Errol Spence Jr, Gilberto Ramirez. etc…

Turning your back on your opponent in boxing is a serious offense and can/will get you DQ. In MMA they tolerate it.

I have seen most of his fights. I know how he fights. It’s nothing like McGregor who is balls to the wall.
Boxing is loaded with dancing pixies on a championship level that turn the “fight” into a track meet.
Biting your opponent’s ear off the first time doesn’t get you dq’d in boxing, don’t tell me the routine running they do does.

Nice one sided fight tonight, McTapper going full wwe as usual too.

I thought he was a fraud? He dominated Alvarez. That was impressive.
