Television By Numbers reports that PBC on CBS Saturday night drew 2.12 million viewers. It finished behind ABC and NBC in network ratings for its time slot.
The event, which aired from 9-11pm ET on CBS, eatured Keith Thurman taking on Shawn Porter with Thurman emerging as the victor in a very good fight.
The event drew a 0.5 rating in the adult 18-49 demo and a 2 share overall.
PBC on CBS went up against the U.S. Olympic Trials on NBC (3.18M viewers) as well as the third place soccer game in the Copa-America Cup on FX and the College World Series on ESPN. It was third in its time slot behind ABC’s “In an Instant” which drew 3.93M viewers. Also, earlier in the night Fox aired an MLB game between the Dodgers and Pirates. It garnered 2.05M viewers.
Payout Perspective:
The ratings are better than PBC on NBC last week. With a lot of live events on competing with boxing, the viewership has to be seen as a positive. Although just the Olympic trials, NBC does well in the ratings especially when it comes to gymnastics.
Joey Garcia says
I am sure that fell in line with analysts expectations. A really good fight. Thurmans strength is super human. And with his height he can move up without a problem and make some fights in the future that will double these ratings.
Half Life says
The 18-49 demo rating has to be disappointing especially for this type of a fight.

Ive seen it reported else were as preliminary numbers of 2.4m average. clearly when its complete, including DVR, the numbers will max out around or over 3m. Very good card, great fight, good job of advertising by PBC/Showtime. CBS might be the best option for PBC sale, since it has Haymon on Showtime anyway, especially if Bob Arum and Richard Schaeffer really start working with Haymon and Showtime/CBS with their own promotions.
Half Life says
The 2.4 million average is for the Thurman/Porter fight itself. the 2.12 million average is for the whole card. Make sense?
Abdullah Islamabod says
good ratings for 2 guys that are still unknown unless you pay attention to boxing
Half Life says
Uknown lol,…Thurman main evented the highest rated card last year(a card that peaked at over 4 million viewers) while Porter/Broner was pretty much in the same time slot a year ago(as this card) and averaged 2.4 million viewers. Not to mention that both Thurman and Porter were on cable cards that did over 800k viewers. Can we please stop making excuses for PBC?

I’ve seen D post before but I’m not him, so sorry to disappoint you Wil and tops E. I’m a huge boxing fan and Satuday’s fight was awesome however I’m gonna keep it real as well….When the 18-49 demo is lower than 20/20 that’s not good…sorry. Am I gonna buy into the idea that these are “unknown fighters” when they were in the highest rated boxing matches last year? No, sorry.
At least with me, I’ll keep it real no matter if it’s boxing, mma, kickboxing whatever….I’m sure at the end of July when the UFC on FOX card does a 2.20 million viewers and 0.8(or whatever) we’ll see Wil and tops E screaming how “bad” the numbers are.
I’m a huge combat sports fan and I wish the best for all of it, but I’m not gonna kiss anybody’s @ss here. Doesn’t matter if it’s Al Haymon, Dana White, Scott Coker, Bob Arum, whoever…..

This was a card with good fighters and was promoted well. When you do that, you get good ratings. Hopefully this teaches PBC that what they need to do is make good matchups.
Certainly there’s room for improvement, but that’s true across all combat sports. This was a good result relative to where the industry is as a whole.
Wil says
Diego, agreed. PBC hasn’t done the best job of promotion, this was done right. As were the best match ups….its the good fighter vs journeymen type fights that have no promotion, those should be kept off of NBC, CBS, and FOX prime time.

pbc has burned through almost 500 million dollars they are almost
