Conor McGregor is not retired. Despite a McGregor tweet earlier this week, he sent a Facebook post proclaiming he was not retired. It all appears to be an impasse between the current Featherweight Champion and the UFC.
The impasse centers around the amount of promotion he was to do for UFC 200. In the post, which appeared on McGregor’s Facebook page, he indicated he asked for some “leeway” with the media obligations but was denied.
McGregor noted the amount of money he made for the UFC in his last three fights:
I feel the $400million I have generated for the company in my last three events, all inside 8 months, is enough to get me this slight leeway.
I am still ready to go for UFC 200.
Despite taking McGregor off of UFC 200, Dana White did not outright bury McGregor for not complying with media requests. In fact, White said he was not mad at McGregor on Collin Cowherd’s FS1 show. He also did not rule out his return to the UFC 200 card.
On Thursday, McGregor sent another tweet which appears aimed at the UFC and the posture that he is not going to give in.
I’ve got my bills paid. My money made. And the entire game slayed. #YourMove pic.twitter.com/wOgbNgUPVd

Payout Perspective:
It’s clear that the two sides need each other. Based on McGregor’s last three events, he realizes what an asset he is to the UFC. July 9th is supposed to be the biggest event in the company’s history to date. The UFC would like McGregor on the card. At 27, McGregor’s career seems far from over and the UFC is the only company that can give him the money he believes he deserves. We shall see what transpires in the coming days as to whether either side concedes.

Oh boy, talk about a bluff that backfired lol

Fight Fan is yanking his hair out now after learning McGregor isn’t done. Hahaha.

I like what Conor is doing. Regardless of how it ends, he’s not letting himself get pushed around. Very reminiscent of GSP. There is no greater achievement for a fighter than making enough money to tell your promoter where to stick it. That goes for boxing as well as MMA.
It’s a nice change from the usual – fighters being so broke that they have to take whatever fight gets offered.

Ali act.for mma
Diego says
Sadly the Ali act doesn’t even work in boxing.
Fight Fan says
McLoser is begging for that payday lol, guess that’s what happens when you don’t make that Floyd money

Good post tops E regarding Couture’s position on the Ali Act. I think it is only a matter of time before it is applied to mma and when it is, there is going to be some very real reform in how the UFC does business, protection for the fighters, and a better all around working environment to guys who have very little power in their careers.
Fight Fan says
Yeah ufc fighter are basically dogs in a cage getting paid kibbles while Mr Clean makes his blackjack money
Diego says
I say again – the Ali act doesn’t even work in boxing. But yeah, it would be nice for fighters to have some protection.
Wil says
Diego, to a degree I agree with you. For here in the USA, the Ali Act has a system of standards that are difficult to enforce since the power of enforcement still falls on state athletic commissions. However, fighters do have more tort powers due to the act I would say….in terms of legal precedence that is.
d says
Fight Fan, yeah, that’s why boxer’s on Pacquaio’s undercard were making as little as $1,500. That’s a financial loss. Haha. That’s barely half of what UFC fighters make for Reebok money at the low end of the totem pole.
