The event featured Glover Teixiera and Rashad Evans with Teixiera earning a first round KO of the former UFC light heavyweight champion. The overrun was only 11 minutes in length from the usual 5-7pm PT time slot.
Payout Perspective:
Despite winning the night, the event was down from the 2.43M viewer overnight it produced last April. Of course, the card was decimated due to injuries and the need to remove the Hendo-Machida fight due to Machida’s failed drug test. Still, on a night in which there was a lot of sports on television, including PBC on NBC at the same time, the UFC did a very good overnight and won the night for its target demo.

UFC on FOX once again beats PBC on NBC. Nothing new.
Joe says
The same 2MM viewers as usual
d says
2m is better than 1m.
The Greatest says
Rashad Evans who has been on a couple ppvs that did 1M buys, he headlined one of them against Rampage. He did 700k buys vs Jon Jones.
Hes a notable name for the UFC.
Spence and Algieri are not notable names at all.
Spence will be for sure but right now hes probably the #1 prospect in all of combat sports. Anthony Joshua is #2.
The Greatest says
Yea but it shows that the UFC is really never going to get more fans.
The UFC hit its peak.
What you see now is what you get. They aren’t making new fans. MMA has been around long enough, people either like it or dont.
2M is basically what they will do for a show on Fox, everytime.
Boxing can do way over that or way under that depending on whos fighting.
Captain Downtrend says
MEH. The same viewers as always.
Boxing drew 10 million viewers in Germany when Klitch and Fury fought.
d says
Evans is a washed up has-been who is likely going to retire soon and this was a replacement headliner because of Machida and Ferguson’s pullout. This would have been 3rd billing fight.
Algieri is a notable name- don’t you remember this argument from the other day? He was headlining ppv’s with Pacquaio. Spence has been this up and comer you’ve been obsessed with for years now.
Spence and Joshua are more like #1,000 and $1,0001 in combat sports prospects. MMA has all of the rest.

“Yea but it shows that the UFC is really never going to get more fans.”
Literally the opposite is true and statistics back this up. The younger fans are all moving towards mma, boxing isn’t gaining new fans with the youth, and they haven’t been able to tap into any new demos which was Hayman’s goal, thus proving they aren’t getting any new fans. The UFC is with every new fight, every day where they get more exposure, they gain more fans. It is far more exciting than boxing, and gradually has increased its fan base. Boxing is the one that has been around longer, not mma as a sport.
2.5m is what they typically do on a FOX network show with a low profile headliner. The sky is the limit if they put a marketable fight on the network though. Boxing’s peak is going to be around or below 2m soon and that would be with PBC’s big named headliners(not to mention they are always significantly lower in the key demo). They plateaued now just like UFC on FOX did. Keep in mind, the UFC’s peak and average show did better on FOX than PBC on the networks.
What’s funny is all of the boxing fans (notably you) predicting ridiculous rating’s numbers prior to PBC airing. You at one point in time were saying they were going to be doing 5-6m per show. Hahahaha.

People will complain and make excuses about the results, but honestly there were four fight cards on at roughly the same time, with similar levels of talent on display. That’s a rarity. It will be interesting to do a comparison of results. The four cards are:
– PCB on NBC
– UFC on Fox
– Bellator on Spike
– Showtime Boxing
(Note: I’m leaving out Glory on ESPN because it was an early afternoon card and likely didn’t compete directly with the other four cards)
None of the cards had major headliners who can pull in large numbers of casuals. All had pretty good fighters that are known by the fans of their respective sports. It will be interesting to see how the cards do overall, and how they do compared to their own historical numbers. Overall a great weekend for fight fans and a great weekend for people who like to analyze the fight biz.
For the record, I saw all four as well as the Leicester- West Ham game and part 1 of the Jackie Robinson documentary. It was a sports weekend overload. My wife was ready to divorce me by Sunday night.

Diego, dont forget the fight card that was on Univsion I believe, which undoubtedly got both the Puerto Rican and Mexican viewers since it was Felix Verdejo, and not to mention CBS Sports had the first showing of Roy Jones Jrs fight promotion as well. The evening was literally stacked with boxing, not to mention a UFC on Fox card, as well as NBA playoffs and other sports. One thing I will say about the UFC fans, they tend to watch UFC and thats it, and Im not talking about the casual fans who tune in for Rousey and McGregor, Im talking the teen/college age kids who are all about it and will watch it no matter who is fighting. Fans who watch boxing also tend to watch other sports NFL, MLB, NBA, NASCAR, etc.

Boom!
MMA continues its march to the top of the combat sports.
