Electronic Arts, Inc. announced the release of EA Sports UFC 2 this week. The new video game features the largest roster for an official UFC game.
Via UFC press release:
“This game is an authentic representation of the UFC brand experience, bringing the excitement of the Octagon to life for all fight fans,” UFC Senior Vice President of Global Consumer Products, Tracey Bleczinski said. “From the walkout, incorporating the new UFC Fight Kit, to the intensity of being face-to-face with the top combat sports athletes in the world, this game has it all.
As we know, Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor are on the cover and it will be available on Xbox One and Playstation 4.
A review of the video game (written by the UFC) is here.
Payout Perspective:
The game is finally here. Not only have we seen the UFC game advertised on signage in the Octagon, Conor McGregor appeared on Conan to advertise the game. The UFC hopes the use of Rousey and McGregor on the cover boost sales. The last EA Sports version of the UFC game did poorly as it only posted 278,000 copies sold in the first month precipitating a price drop. We will see if the advertising push helps sales this time around.

Wh did the original UFC game for the Sega Dreamcast? That’s the one I loved the most!

The UFC is the KISS of MMA.
Take away the hype and the fanboyism and you’re left with a mediocre organization.
WSOF=the UFC without the hype.
The Greatest says
Two versions of Mike Tyson will be in the game as well.
The Fight Night series was the best.
Most people i know, mma fans included still prefer the boxing video game from a few years ago over the UFC games.

The Greatest and his delusions……nothing new.

Good analysis of McGregor’s numbers making him the no.1 draw in combat sports.
Fight Fan says
lol not after that fight, the guy got exposed and his hype is gone.
The Greatest says
Video was worthless. They quoted McGregor claiming hes making $10M a fight. Yea thanks for citing your sources.
Also this video, going off ridiculous estimates that will fall flat, says that if this ppv did what people think it did then it might’ve done $60M in revenue and apparently thats never been done in the UFC.
Funny but that was all off estimations that really have no formula to it but lets just say it did $60M for sake of argument.
Canelo-Cotto did $58M in revenue according to multiple sources not “estimates”.
I recall D telling me that all most all ufc ppvs made more than Canelo-Cotto.
How could that be true? According to the video that D posted, $60M in revenue apparently is a big deal and that none of Mcgregors past, or really any of the UFCs past fights have hit that mark.
So once again Canelo-Cotto was bigger than any UFC fight ever.
Fight Fan says
Even mayweather de la Hoya was bigger than any ufc event ever and that was almost 10 years ago.
d says
Hahaha. I knew that would create some frustration from the weakest.
They didn’t say McGregor’s claim were facts. They did point out the likelihood of him making in that range though.
“Also this video, going off ridiculous estimates that will fall flat, says that if this ppv did what people think it did then it might’ve done $60M in revenue and apparently thats never been done in the UFC.”
So ridiculous estimates according to you are third party people who have direct knowledge of the figures like Meltzer? Amusing.
“Canelo-Cotto did $58M in revenue according to multiple sources not “estimates”.”
Multiple sources, ie, the promoters. Haha. No way that fight hit 58m. Those are delusions.
“I recall D telling me that all most all ufc ppvs made more than Canelo-Cotto.”
I’m at the point where I’m convinced you just type whatever pops into your mind. You create fictitious statements, rumors, statistics, etc more than anyone I’ve ever seen.
Cotto-Canelo….less than 3 UFC ppvs over the past 4 months. Hahaha. McGregor no1 combat sports star, Rousey #2, Jones #3. Hahahahaha.
d says
“Even mayweather de la Hoya was bigger than any ufc event ever and that was almost 10 years ago.”
Always amusing how these guys bring up Mayweather’s name and fights that went down years ago. You are living in the past. Mayweather’s done, and along with him, most of boxing’s ppv revenue. No one is ever going to do what Mayweather did in boxing.
When the UFC more than doubles up boxing this year in ppv buys/revenue, does the top ppv, does 3 ppvs that go over a million, while boxing might have one, and PBC shuts down, how are you going to spin that?
d says
“lol not after that fight, the guy got exposed and his hype is gone.”
The hype is gone? Yeah, that’s why everyone is screaming for a fight with the guy for UFC 200 that will for sure break 1m buys and likely will set a ufc record for ppv buys/revenue. I wouldn’t be stunned if they hit 2m buys.
The Greatest says
Its funny how you say people are bringing up Mayweathers past fights and then turn right around and claim Jon Jones is number #3 in combat sports.
Jon Jones hasn’t fought in over a year. Mayweather-pacquiao did 4.6M less than a year ago.
What are you talking about?
Also wouldn’t Pacquiao be the number #1 star in combat sports. I mean you claim Jones is 3, even though he only did 800k over a year ago for his last ppv, while Manny did 4.6M for his last ppv under a year.
You’re backing yourself into a corner
The Greatest says
D claims no way Canelo-Cotto did $58M even though its reported by multiple sources, but then posts a Youtube video of some goon rambling.
d says
“Jon Jones hasn’t fought in over a year. Mayweather-pacquiao did 4.6M less than a year ago.

Mayweather is retired, Jones is not, and is fighting in a few weeks. That is what I’m talking about.
” Also wouldn’t Pacquiao be the number #1 star in combat sports. I mean you claim Jones is 3, even though he only did 800k over a year ago for his last ppv, while Manny did 4.6M for his last ppv under a year.”
No, Pacquaio wasn’t the A, he was the B. Pacquaio hasn’t hit 800k buys since 2012, not to mention he’s done after his upcoming fight which will certainly not eclipse 800k buys.
Every comment you make, you back yourself into a corner, and then create delusions which convince you, that you’ve gotten out of it.
The weakest claims Canelo-Cotto did 58m claiming multiple sources, while never stating those sources- which all would stem from the same source- everyone involved in the promotion. There is no validation to anything you report, you just state what the promotion claims, on my end, we have a third party with zero incentive to lie and a proven track record who has challenged the UFC’s numbers pretty consistently.

Yet statistics show the opposite. So much so, that EA put the UFC games ahead of the Fight Night games and discontinued the latter. Hahaha.

“At 900,000 buys and $58 million in PPV revenue, Cotto-Canelo performed superbly,” said HBO SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT MARK TAFFET, who oversees the network’s pay-per-view franchise.
Thanks for acknowledging what I was saying. The source of these numbers are directly involved in the promotion.
While we are at it, let’s take Dana White’s 1.5m ppv number, he claimed UFC 196 did.
Fight Fan says
Hbo falls under time warner, they cannot make this stuff up or investors could Sue. Meanwhile mr clean aka Dana white can claim whatever he wants.
Also that 1.6 is still lower than a boxing event 9 years ago
d says
Hahaha. You are delusional if you think they can’t make things up or if anyone would care if they did. This is less than a rounding error to Time-Warner.
Yeah, Dana White does make things up, just like Taffet, Espinoza, Arum, Ellerbe, Mayweather, Schaeffer do. It is part of boxing culture to lie about ppv numbers. If what you said was true, why is it that a while back, Rafael called out Espinoza on his Mayweather-Guerrero lies? You notice Dan doesn’t do any research anymore. ESPN had a long talk with him. Haha. Also, why is it that they all accuse each other of lying about numbers? How many times did Schaeffer call out Arum and ask him to open his books?
The fact is you accept this argument when it favors your angle, but when I suggest we do the same thing with mma, you say it is a lie.
I’ll leave you with a famous Dan Rafael quote:
“If a boxing person tells you the sun is out make sure you look out the window to be sure.”
Gil says
EA really needs this game to be a big hit to turn this series around. EA’s recent mma games have sold very poorly.
