Saul “Canelo” Alvarez fights Miguel Cotto on Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Nevada State Athletic Commission has divulged the purses for Saturday’s event.
Cotto will make at least $15 million while Alvarez will make $ 5 million.
Nevada commission reports guarantees of $15 million for @RealMiguelCotto and $5 million for @Canelo.

Alvarez will also benefit from PPV upside from Mexico. No word if Cotto will receive a part of the PPV cut.
There are a few tickets left on Ticketmaster as of Friday night. However, those tickets start at $2,000. On the secondary market, you can find tickets for $615.
Payout Perspective:
This fight will be one of the bigger fights of the year. As with boxing, nation pride comes into play when factoring in the popularity of the fight. Cotto, who is from Puerto Rico, and Alavarez, who is from Mexico, should draw huge followings both in person and on PPV. While I do not think that this fight will climb to Ronda Rousey levels, Alvarez is a major draw. Cotto is an older fighter but is competitive and it should be a good fight.
FightBusiness says
but but i thoght mayweather and pac made big money in boxing. this also doesnt include the upside and these dudes are junior middleweights
d says
But, but I made a bet and then welched on it.
Also, there may be no upside. If the ppv doesn’t hit a certain peak, they may get nothing else.
The gate isn’t doing well, there isn’t a big vibe for this fight, there is a strong possibility it will under-perform.

Oh no ufc fanboys would be furious because of this post…hahaha…
d says
Hahahaha. Furious about a sinking ship??? Na. Hahahahaha.
FightBusiness says
he wont make a penny over 15 million.lol. yeah well thats still 13 million more than mcgregor will make. i didnt back off on the bet. i just thought we had to wait until the end of the year for all the numbers to come in. i will call myself fag business for 3 months after all the ppv numbers come in for this year. i think i said the ufc wouldnt do more than 5 million ppv buys and boxing will do about 7. i was way off with the ufc but will have a shot with boxing clearing 7. its at 5 million thus far. if pac fought in the fall it definately would have cleared 7 million ppv buys. 7 is a very strong number
d says
McGregor makes much more than 2m per fight. He’s probably making more than Canelo will for his upcoming fight.
The numbers did come in already. They are posted above under the ppv section. The bet was 5 million and we are well past that.
Also, boxing is nowhere near at 7 and won’t this year, they aren’t even at 5, that is more of your bs.
d says
Another over-hyped boxing match that failed to live up to expectation. What a surprise.
Pink Pig says
Great fight! Canelo vs GGG is gonna be HUGE
d says
97k ppv buys huge……hahahahaha
Random Dude says
This fight had no buzz even in Las Vegas. Didn’t affect hotel prices. Not a sellout with lots of tickets available. Granted, that mainly hurts scalpers though, less so the promoter. The idea that Canelo vs GGG is going to be huge is like the guesses that Cormier vs Gustafason was going to be huge…only the hardcores believe that.
Logical says
ODLH is saying that the fight is trending at around 1Mill PPV’s. Take that with a grain of salt as he is one of the promoters and has a dog in this fight. It would be kinda like a dumb UFC fanboy believing whatever numbers Dana White or Fertitta throws at them. It’s all hearsay until you actually have official numbers or at least coming from someone with good connections (Dave Meltzer or Dan Rafael in the boxing world), I’ll wait for those.

FightBusiness says
boxing already has passed the 5 million mark. may vs pac did 4.6. mayweather vs berto did 400k and ggg about 100k. canelo vs cotto will do about 1.3. the mens dividion of the ufc did about 3.8 million ppv buys this year. that means boxing’s mens division beat ufc. but rhonda founght three times and got 2.5 million ppv’s on her own. did i really lose on my bet? i’ll still hold my end of the bet starting in january.
d says
Topps is self conscious about sunlight, which is why he never removes himself from his parents basement.
d says
Unreal. Fightbusiness, do you take yourself seriously? Now you are breaking them up by gender and implying Rousey’s numbers shouldn’t count because she is a woman? You are shameless. I also still don’t believe the fictitious number thrown out there with May-Pac that was not fact checked by anyone.
Yes, you lost the bet, now you are welching on it. Go check out the numbers listed on the ppv tab. Over 5m already. Also, boxing WILL NOT do more ppv buys than the UFC in the men’s division (as if that matters-even with that delusional Mayweather number). After Aldo-McGregor, the UFC should surpass them.
The Greatest says
Mayweather-Pacquiao 4.6M
Mayweather-Berto 550k
Golovkin-Lemeuix 150k
Canelo-Cotto- at least 900k
So boxing did over 6.2M ppvs with only 4 ppvs.
Another win for boxing I guess.
Also if you aren’t counting WMMA in this ppv battle than boxing wins by a mile.
UFC 194 would need to do 2.6M to pass boxing (Without Rouseys 3 ppvs included)
Diego says
The Greatest,
Why would you not count Rousey’s fights? That makes no sense. Money is money – if a promoter can sell PPVs, that’s all that we’re counting. It doesn’t matter if the headliner is male or female. Nice try though. You almost had a point.
d says
“Mayweather-Pacquiao 4.6M
Mayweather-Berto 550k
Golovkin-Lemeuix 150k

Revisionist history.
The 4.6 was clearly a delusional inflated number.
Mayweather-Berto only did 400k
GGG-Lemieux only did 97k
Boxing didn’t come anywhere near 6.2m and they had more than 4 ppvs. There were a few low profile Mexican card ppvs that obviously did nothing which boxing fans frequently gloss over despite the fact that they were banner promoted.
Everything you state is a delusion.
The UFC had a massive year this year. Boxing had the one big fight, which literally buried the sport. Cotto-Canelo seems like they did very well, but it again failed to live up to the hype and won’t be repeated next year because Canelo will not fight GGG.
RIP PPV boxing 2016.
d says
I also think its funny how everyone said MMA was dead last year because their top two ppv stars were done. It didn’t take long to reverse that. Yet, now, with boxing losing Mayweather and with Pac having only 1 fight left(and also not the draw he once was), boxing is in the same position of losing its top two stars, however the difference is, boxing has no one to replace them with. What helped boxing for the past 7 years is the fact that you had two dominant boxers that could sell a fight win over and over again until of course Pac lost(then his numbers dropped off), Mayweather never lost, which is what helped his numbers stay steady. You won’t have that with Canelo because he isn’t that good. You are also seeing a lot of boxing fans turned away because these fights never live up to expectation and are snooze fests.
Boxing actually has a serious crisis on their hands that the UFC did not have last year despite having their two biggest draws semi-retire, etc, boxing doesn’t have anyone to replace their only 2 ppv stars over the past 7 years.
The Greatest says
@Diego
D and somebody else were arguing ppvs and D said without Rousey, the UFC still has more ppvs sold compared to boxing. That isn’t true, so i was pointing that out.
@D
UFC just lost its biggest draw two weeks ago.
Rousey is out until summer 2016, and when she gets back her drawing power is gonna be nowhere near the same.
If Mcgregor loses, there goes your 2nd biggest draw as well.
Jones doesn’t pull in the numbers. A rematch with Cormier would do 500K and everything else in the UFC is selling lower than that.
Canelo-Lara II would sell 600k-1M depending on how it was marketed.
This fight got Canelo a bump in popularity.
Ive seen every ESPN show talk about the fight and talk about him and if hes the big new star in boxing and what not.
A rematch with a guy that some argue won the first fight would only drive fan/casual fan interest.
Both not speaking English hurts tho, but definitely outsells the first fight.
Fight with GGG does 1M
d says
“D and somebody else were arguing ppvs and D said without Rousey, the UFC still has more ppvs sold compared to boxing. That isn’t true, so i was pointing that out.”
You obviously can’t read. I never said the UFC will have more without Rousey. IE, AFTER 194.
“Also, boxing WILL NOT do more ppv buys than the UFC in the men’s division (as if that matters-even with that delusional Mayweather number). After Aldo-McGregor, the UFC should surpass them.”
That is what I said genius.

More delusions from the mental boy. You claim the UFC just lost its biggest draw, then you point out how she is coming back in the Summer. Also, her drawing power will be bigger because that fight will be massive. It will probably hit 2m ppv buys.
Jones- DC did 800k and will probably match that in the rematch. You are insane and just make things up as you go along.
Lara is pulling in ratings of 400k viewers on Spike tv, Bellator no name headliners easily outdraw that. Canelo-Lara II does 300k buys if it goes down. You are brain dead.
Canelo has no fights left and boxing ppv is dead. You are going to continue to manufacture delusions though regardless because you are a quack that needs meds.
