Payout Perspective:
A Pac 12 Football game between USC and Colorado on ESPN was the highest-rated sports event on cable TV Friday night drawing 1.3M viewers. It aired at the same time as PBC on Spike TV which may have detoured some viewers from boxing. Realistically, these events are for the hardcore boxing fans as many of these fighters are not known to the casual viewer.

Hahaha.

It wasn’t a card with a lot of drawing power. PBC continues to baffle me with their card selection. I feel like they have some super-secret master plan that they will unveil at some point, but until then, they just suck.

No name boxers…too bad turned out to be a good fight…5 knockdowns back and forth

Can you update us on the lawsuit? How is the discovery process progressing?

PBC will be done in 6 months.
fight fan says
d didn’t you say that 6 months ago?
The Greatest says
Holm beats Rousey
Boxing wins.
d says
Fight Fan, 6 months ago, PBC was three months in. No, I did not say that then. I’m saying that now. You must have heard that at your local Buffalo Wild Wings.

The Greatest is off of his meds again.

The fact that boxing has no stars, ratings or ppv anymore, one must wonder how much longer any boxing promoter is going to stay in business.
The Greatest says
No stars?
They got Canelo-Cotto in two days, moron.
Canelo pulls in over 20M viewers per fight in Mexico and they are saying this one could top 40M.
Cotto is guaranteed $10M but will make around $30M through PPV revenue and sponsors. Canelo is guaranteed $6.5M and will make over $10M when its said and done.
Canelo is set to be a mega star after this if he can demolish Cotto, which i think hes going to do.
By the way both these guys have nothing to do with PBC.

Yup, once Mayweather retired, the boxing business wound up in complete disarray and is completely flat lining.
Boxing fans suffer from delusions of grandeur. They need medication to bring back their cognitive function.
Chris says
PBC really does need to come with a different strategy in 2016. They got to come with better fights, maybe putting all these fights on different networks wasnt the best idea. I understand why they did it, they put out feelers to all networks with time buys hoping one or two or a few of them come with big rights fee offers later on.
But since they launched they are going down, burning up their war chest and not getting big returns.
ESPN has had a few shows that did well but Spike has been bad, NBC has been bad, NBC SPorts isnt big, FS1 does nothing. They need to change it up.
Chris says
Canelo/Cotto is a great fight and hope it does well, think they do have fans of both fighters that make it do well but it doesnt feel like its gonna be teh massive fight we all thought.
Sounds like they didnt sell alot of tickets, belt was stripped, Canelo is said to be having trouble making weight. This isnt about the stupid mma vs boxing thing, just true, think Ronda talk has def overshadowed this fight. Even Roach is being asked about it during press conferences. Seems like the talk of the combat sports world is Ronda right now not this fight.
when it was first announced I figured this could do a mill, now I dont know if it even hits 700k, this might do alot less. 500k is still a good number but when Oscar is saying this fight will do 1.5 million PPV buys doing 500k or 700k doesnt sound so good.
Though I think 700k would would be a good number, Oscar is just hyping the fight.
Hard to say how well it will do, days out it doesnt feel like a huge fight, like a Floyd fight used to feel like or Manny fight or Ronda fight.
The Greatest says
Ronda hype is over and if Mcgregor loses, then they are in a real bad position.
They put there eggs in all the wrong baskets.
Canelo-Cotto only has a few tickets left to sell.
d says
The Greatest is in pure self destruct mode. He can’t accept that Mayweather has retired and boxing’s ppv is in the gutter.
d says
Chris, if Canelo-Cotto only does around 500k buys, that would be a disaster for them. That is probably a break even point for the promotion at best. They’ve put a ton of money into this fight.
They need to do about 750k buys for this to be seen as some sort of success, but I think they are expecting close to a million buys.
Chris says
Ronda/Holm rematch is huge, UFC 200, McGregor, Jones, Anderson, Sonnen and Diaz all back next year, GSP might return. Building up new fighters like PVZ and Sage as 20 year old kids to promote.
2016 will be another huge year for mma.
Boxing I think needs a Floyd return fight, maybe Manny vs Khan. Canelo/Cotto wont fight GGG, none of the three have sold as A side of a PPV. Nobody else is a PPV star.
Not saying there arent good fighters or fights next year but other than a Floyd return vs Manny or Canelo/Cotto I dont see any fights doing over a million buys, most wont even do close to that.
Both sports are star driven, ups and downs, UFC was down and they are up now, boxing was up and now they look like they will hit a down for a little while when Floyd/Manny are gone. Until they can make Canelo a mega star and build up some other fighters.
BlahBlahBlah says
Boxing drew almost 1 million viewers on HBO last week.
MMA is just hype now because it’s been taken over by people in business suits.
TUF’s ratings are terrible and after the recent doping scandals, more and more fans are starting to get bored of the same old crap.
Boxing has been around for a long time. MMA has been around for about 10 years and it’s obviously going downhill.
The most hyped, over-advertised UFC fight night will draw no more than about 2 million people. I’ve seen snooker games that drew more than that.
The Greatest says
UFC is set to have a distarous year in 2016.
Rousey lost and McGregor will probably lose, eliminating both of their biggest draws.
Who else is left?
I don’t know any of their champions.
Remember that guy Jon Jones? Whatever happen to him?
Chris says
Ronda’s rematch with Holly will be huge,
Jones vs DC 2 is huge
UFC 200 is huge
anderson Silva is back probably against Vitor, thats big, also GSP might come back, could get GSP/Silva super fight.
Nick Diaz is back, Sonnen could be back.
If McGregor beats Aldo they could rematch in another huge fight.
LOL UFC having a bad 2016.
d says
Hahaha. Pure desperation from mental boy. He needs his medication. Boxing just fell off of a cliff when Mayweather retired. Hahahahaha.
Random Dude says
Boxing will be better off when PBC dies. And it will die, it has been a big failure. Haymon is laughing all the way to the bank with all the investors’ sucker-money though.
