WSOF hires Sonnen for on-air work

September 1, 2015 by Jason Cruz 3 Comments

Chael Sonnen will be doing color commentary for the World Series of Fighting according to a press release from the company.  Sonnen will begin his new duties starting Friday, September 18th on NBC Sports Network.

Via WSOF press release:

“I am stoked to join the powerhouse team at World Series of Fighting, and call their fights that feature some of the best mixed martial artists on the planet,” said Sonnen “World Series of Fighting has done an outstanding job of building their organization into a top-tier franchise in a very short span of time, and I am just proud to be a part of such a fast-growing company.

Sonnen was an in-studio analyst for Fox Sports but was relieved of his duties after he failed drug tests leading up to UFC 175.  Sonnen was hired by ESPN after he was let go by Fox.  He also has done commentating for Battlegrounds MMA last October and most recently with Global Force Wrestling.

Payout Perspective:

Hiring Sonnen is a good move for the company as it is trying to spark interest in the product.  We will see how much Sonnen’s presence will help with promoting the events.  It will also be interesting to see how Sonnen works with play-by-play announcer Todd Harris.

@Josh_HokitUFC You’re gonna cry you were cancelled by the left for “free speech”. And then you’ll post 200 times a day on Twitter until fox and friends invites you on to “tell your story”. And after that you’ll run for congress and your campaign will be centered on white grievance.

This is

Real question. Was this announced or is there an intern somewhere that is taking note of ever fighter’s follow and unfollow?

Ian Garry unfollowed PFL fighter Alexei Pergande after a clip resurfaced of him taking down Garry in sparring:

"Ian Garry is lying about me... I'm not sure why he made up a lie [about me filming him without permission]."
