PBC on Spike TV 5 draws 679K viewers

August 17, 2015 by Jason Cruz 24 Comments

PBC on Spike TV drew an average of 679,000 viewers per Sports TV Ratings. It’s the second-highest viewership for PBC on Spike since its launch in March.

The event, which aired from 9:00-11:16pm ET, featured Antonio Tarver taking on Steve Cunningham which ended in a split decision draw. The undercard featured an upset as Krzysztof Glowacki defeated WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck.

PBC on Spike
869,000 3/13/2015
569,000 4/24/2015
772,000 5/22/2015
446,000 6/12/2015
679,000 8/14/2015

Payout Perspective:

If you considered that this is the first weekend for NFL preseason football and PBC went up against two NFL games which drew over 1M viewers each this is a very good rating.  Of course, the Little League World Series qualifying games and a Sportscenter also drew better than live boxing on Spike.

first of all mma trolls this article confirms this isnt strictly an mma website despite its name. it actually wanted web traffic so they started putting Boxing on. similar to sheerdog. unlike mma fans i am not delusional. these numbers are not good. i would like to see the peak numbers however. no one knows or cares about the washup losers on this card. i didnt even see the shit. boxing is all over the map which is creating confusion. the cards are also almost always horrible. put ggg on nbc and see what it does. boxing must consolidate like the ufc did and the numbers will consistantly beat the anus sniffing league. i hope a deal comes soon.no doubt boxing on one network can get 1.5 million average if they do so and often a 2.5 millin peak.

No bullshit its not good numbers but they arent awful. But PBC should be taking advantage of Spikes reach, its a bigger network than FS1, NBC Sports. Its got other combat sports on it, Khan not being able to average a million viewers for the telecast isnt good.

I do agree with FB they are on too many networks, it is confusing not knowing which fight is on where at what time.

One fight is on CBS in afternoon, other is on NBC at night, other is NBC in afternoon, then on Spike at night then on Bounce tv or something.

But they are throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks, hoping one or two networks offer a big deal for it all like Fox/UFC>

Problem I have with PBC is the matchmaking, bring up Floyd’s pay, or how many PPV a rematch will sell, anything to avoid the topic cause thats what you idiots do but anyone being real about it knows the matchmaking sucks.

One out of every 5 main events is good, the rest are Haymon squash match specials.

Gee, that’s funny Fagbusiness, because when on the very same channel, Bellator had two washed up losers like Ortiz and Bonnar fight or Shamrock and Kimbo fight, they demolished this number and had huge numbers. The difference is the tranny league doesn’t have the fanbase that mma does.

You better own up to our bet when the numbers for Mighty Mouse come in.

Yeah, when was Tito Ortiz at his peak? 2001? 2002? He hasn’t had a meaningful fight in years.

HAHAHAHA!! GOOD NUMBERS????? HAHAHAHAHA!!! Tops in full retard spin mode. These numbers were pure shit. No name fighters in Bellator, not even in the top 20 headlining Spike shows do better ratings.

d- shamrock and kimbo did do good numbers. those numbers also beat 95% of ufc numbers on fox sports. are you then also insinuating that bellator is more popular than the ufc. by the way I love ding ding di you hear cotto is set to get 30 million against canelo and canelo is going to get 10 million. LOL. but but fight business only mayweather and pac get big money and after may 2nd Boxing will die. this cotto fight will do a larger live gate and ppv number than 90% of all UFC events held ever. i can hear it already. after GGG and Canelo Boxing will die. and those are the only two that make big money.

Fagbusiness, you are wrong and retarded.

First off, Shamrock and Kimbo are on SPIKE!!!!! You fucking idiot!! Fox Sports does not carry the same level of audience that Spike does. You put the UFC fights back on Spike and their numbers go back up. When the UFC was on Spike, their numbers consistently would be higher than that number with Kimbo. They did almost 5m viewers when Jackson fought Henderson you idiot.

Here are another ton of examples:

    Huerta vs Guida ….1.7m viewers
    Tanner vs Grove…. 2m
    Silva vs Irvin ………..3.1m
    Diaz vs Neer………..1.8m
    Leben vs Bisping…2.6m
    Koscheck vs Yoshida…2m
    Nover v. Escudero …1.9m
    Lauzon vs. Stephens….1.7m

    Plus a ton more.

As for the Cotto bullshit, yeah more delusions. Okay, so if you bothered to read his contract with Roc Nation, you would realize a decent chunk of his pay is for promotional work. Also, that 30m is a fictitious number- you should investigate reality. Show me how those two combined can make 40m for a fight that will probably gross 40m. That fight coming up WON’T out sell UFC 194 though, hahahaha.

Boxing won’t die, but it is gradually fading away. It is pretty obvious. Those two you mentioned will never come anywhere close to Mayweather in terms of ppv buys, gates, overall interest, etc. They can’t sell like him. The boxing mega event is dead when Mayweather goes bye bye soon.

Get that nicknamed warmed up Fagbusiness.

Fagbusiness, yes, because the UFC doesn’t just do a few events that hover around 1m, they also do another 5 or 6 per year that go over 500k. Boxing doesn’t. They also have a network deal going strong, boxing doesn’t. These are the differences. The only way for boxing to survive in the future is for them to drastically cut wages for their fighters or they won’t be able to sustain any big tv cards.

    Card peaked at 874k
Pretty good for non Americans that no one cares for.
Hucks been overrated. Heres the proof.

D boxing isnt cutting wages, they dont plan to pay fighters with weed and beer like the UFC

Non Americans??? Antonio Tarver was born in the US dummy. This card shit the bed. Atrocious numbers. PBC is a proven failure already and should pull the plug immediately. When this is all over they will have lost 500m in roughly 2 years if they keep going.

Boxing won’t have a choice, and we will see where the fighter pay is for both sports 5 years from now. Probably will be completely reversed because boxing is fading fast.

Your argument dodged my point above and the entire topic of this article, is mostly incoherent and has no rationale thought.

Boxing as a whole is going to take a drastic drop off this year in ppv buys, gate revenue, overall sales, average viewership etc, and will start to decline considerably because Mayweather/Pacquaio are on their way out and mma is in full throttle. The writing is on the wall. It is basic evolution. I know this drives you nuts, but you are eventually going to have to accept the reality of the situation.
