UFC 194 set for MGM Grand featuring Aldo-McGregor

August 10, 2015 by Jason Cruz 34 Comments

Yahoo! Sports reports that the long-awaited fight between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor will take place on Saturday, December 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Speculation arose that this fight would take place at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas as part of huge extravaganza which would include Tate-Rousey III and perhaps one more title fight.  It grew more credible when the MGM indicated a conflict on December 5th for a concert.

The bantamweight title fight should be supported by another spirited Embedded series as well as other shoulder programming on Fox Sports 1 as well as mainstream promotion.

Payout Perspective:

White indicated that the MGM “moved Heaven and Earth” to get Aldo-McGregor for the MGM Grand Garden Arena.  On December 12th, “Heaven and Earth” will change places (h/t if you get that reference) as we hope the two bitter rivals stay healthy enough to finally meet in the Octagon.  Moving UFC 194 one week may help as it avoids College Football Championship weekend.  The Army-Navy game is scheduled for that Saturday.  The annual rivalry plus regional college basketball and regular season NBA would be the only competitors for that Saturday as no boxing events have been announced so far.

We will see if they add another big fight for 194 to help support the card.  Also, Rousey-Tate III and Rockhold-Weidman look to be headlining UFC 195 January 3rd.

2 million or bust? 1.5 million or bust. anything higher is respectable. if this doesnt clear 1 million mma is officially dead given all they hype. boxing is on pace to do 6.5 million ppv buys this year. extremely strong year and there was with no pac fall fight. fyi, andre ward will fight a named opponent on the cotto vs canelo undercard

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Where are all the fucking idiots that predicted a bomb this year on ppv. PPV for the UFC this year is through the roof. No more ppv stars right?? HAHAHA!!! Idiots.

7m ppv buys this year for the UFC at least. Biggest year for them financially in their history.

The words of a full blown retard. First off, boxing isn’t on pace to do 6.5m ppv buys that is boxing promoter bullshit. By the way moron, I hope you aren’t bitching out on our bet. Because your name is fagbusiness once they hit 5m and they need only 125k more buys according to the Blue Book.

The UFC will outdraw boxing in ppv buys once again for 8 out of the last 9 years. Mayweather/Pac retiring. Who do they have to fill those shoes? Canelo??? He needs a big name to do anything significant, unlike Rousey and McGregor. The rest are all old just like their fans. Boxing…P55, senior citizen crowd. Tarver, Jones, Mayorga, Mosley, Toney all having recent fights because there are no stars coming up in boxing to replace them. Oh wait, Broner is the next Mayweather. Haha.

ok we cant have this. mma payouts numbers are reliable but boxing promoters numbers are bullshit. if thats the case why even debate? every time boxing shatters something you’ll just go full out autistic and yell “that didnt happen boxing promoters are full of shit”. well thats all we have. UFC has had 9 events so far that have done 4.8 million ppv’s. pretty much what 1 boxing fight did. lol. we also dont know if dave meltzers numbers are even reliable because unlike boxing ufc is private. hbo and showtime are publically traded companies and cant not lie about there numbers or they can get sued. mcgregor is not a ppv star. his last event just did well because he was going insane in the press confrences and the ufc wouldnt shut the fuck about this event. they canthave an insane marketing campaign with him every time like they recently did . he actually isnt that good a fighter either. he struggled in his last fight the first two rounds. so he should be getting beat shortly. the fact that you even mentioned a chick as your other star and not your heavyweight champion says eveything. lol. no need to have a disgusting tone you piece of shit. i will honor my bet but dont talk disrespectfully. i can see may 2nd really hurt your white trash pysche. lol

You are an idiot fagbusiness. MMAPAYOUT reports numbers from Dave Meltzer someone with a reliable track record, that does not get along so great with White and co. that calls them out on their bullshit inflated numbers. I don’t care if that is all you have for boxing, that doesn’t make it true. If that is the case, why don’t we just go by the bullshit numbers White leaks to Iole/through their website, etc? By that analogy, UFC 189 did over 1m buys, while Meltzer is now saying it is somewhat over 800k.

First off, even the bullshit number that they threw out there was 4.4m and they didn’t do that while the UFC actually did do just shy of 4.9m buys with much less expensive to promote events. You are such an idiot that can’t comprehend that it doesn’t matter how many events boxing has on ppv, they are still going to generate roughly the same amount of numbers. Last year, there were 7 ppvs from the banner promotions in boxing and they did less than the 2 years prior when there was only 4 ppvs per year.

As for Meltzer’s numbers- his WWE numbers have been fact checked and verified to be legit by a number of sources with credibility. They list their numbers publicly quarterly and match up pretty consistently accurate to his numbers released prior.

“hbo and showtime are publically traded companies and cant not lie about there numbers or they can get sued.”

This might be the most idiotic comment in your retarded rant. Okay, so first off, Showtime and HBO are not publicly traded companies. They fall under the Viacom/CBS, Time Warner parent companies. Second, even if they were, they wouldn’t be facing lawsuits, they would be facing prosecution and potential penalties from the SEC. Also, you are claiming they can’t lie, well, they don’t release their ppv numbers, so prove to me how they can’t. It would be easy to say you made an error with those figures seeing how they don’t complete the count for a year sometimes.

Your rant about McGregor is beyond retarded and you know you were proven wrong you stupid fuck. The fact that a chick in mma is destroying anything boxing has from here on out is even more laughable, plus the fact that she can kick the biggest boxing stars ass in a real fight makes it even more amusing.

Yeah, the truth hurts. You are a fucking idiot and were proven dead wrong. Get your racist bullshit out of here you stupid fuck. Say goodbye Fightbusiness and hello Fagbusiness.

LOL at MMA being dead as it continues to put on great shows and great PPV numbers for many events (and probably doing higher buys than boxing again this year).

The boxing fans are hilarious – in addition to feeling threatened.

Wish Ronda/Tate was on this card to make it an even bigger event but after seeing the business Ronda just did in Brazil vs Bethe I can see why they would want them on their own cards.

    Many reasons.

First if they doubled them up they probably do a big gate for them, probably break UFC 100 PPV record and do maybe 1.5-2 mill buys but maybe tehy dont get to 2 mill buys.

But put them on their own shows, you get two gates, each card is a million buys or more.

I can see them doing a bigger gate with a combined card but a few mill more in gate money is nothing compared to a few hundred thousand extra PPV buys.

    Could do

McGregor/Aldo with Werdum/Cain and then in Jan do Ronda/Tate with Weidman/Luke.

They are the closest thing to facts that we have. If we ignore all PPV numbers, whether reported by Meltzer, HBO or a promoter, we would have nothing to discuss. And what’s the fun in that?

d- ok dummy GGG is a star. tickets went on sale at MSG for his next fight and in one day the fight sold 5k tickets which is an arena record for boxing. thats a star. yes he will do big ppv numbers. i’ll go on record right now and say ggg vs ward does 1 million ppv’s and does ggg vs kovolov. once the boxing hype machine starts its over. if ggg wins his next fight against this above average guy its over he’s a star bring on ppv.

Hahaha. GGG-Ward/Kovalev??? I’ll quote Dan Rafael for this one:

“If a boxing person tells you the sun is out make sure you look out the window to be sure.”

Those fights obviously are no where near to be signed and even when they do, that will be tops for boxing around 1m buys at most with Ward, no way with Kovalev.

“absolutely NO ONE is questioning the may 2nd ppv numbers but you. do you realize that jealous?? only you no one else. you just cant wrap your brain around those numbers can you.”

That’s because no one fact checks boxing promoters which is mind boggling.

Not that you haven’t done it already, but anyone who states this:

“hbo and showtime are publically traded companies and cant not lie about there numbers or they can get sued” has zero credibility.

I don’t think anyone on here was hating on GGG. Most fans of both sports respect the guy because he fights like someone who has balls unlike Gayweather. With that being said, he can definitely become a ppv draw, no question with his style and skill. The issue though is his age combined with the fact that no one is willing to fight him. They are all ducking him. Canelo, Ward, Cotto, want nothing to do with the guy. Kovalev will probably fight him if given the opportunity, but that fight isn’t a main stream draw. Maybe 500k buys right now. Even peak numbers for GGG will probably only hit 1m- which is a very good number, just not Mayweather figures.
